BWHA is proud to support the OWHA Green Armband Initiative this season.
The OWHA is introducing the Green Armband Initiative to reduce abuse and harassment of young officials.
This initiative is for on-ice officials under the age of 18 and draws attention to the OWHA coaches, parents and other game participants, that the official wearing the green armband is a minor. These young officials are vital to the present and future of the OWHA officiating program.
The Green Armband Initiative aims to create a positive atmosphere in OWHA games by identifying officials under the age of 18 with green armbands to highlight that they are minors and should be treated with respect.
All officials under 18 are encouraged to wear the green armband starting in the 2024-25 season.
Increased discipline will be enforced for any maltreatment or code of conduct violations against officials wearing green armbands, with incidents being reviewed and treated as severe.
We ask that all of our participants and spectators to treat all officials with respect.
